The Jesus Rolls plot
Spin-off of The Big Lebowski. Three strange guys, including Jesus Quintana, end up in a love story because of their special dynamics. Their spontaneous and brash attitude towards both the past and the future sometimes backfires, even when they unintentionally perform good deeds. When they get into a fight with a trigger-happy hairdresser, they constantly have to flee from the man, the police and society itself. But their mutual bond is getting stronger.

Mediocre film about a man who just got out of prison and goes on a trip with a friend of his. Apart from the main character, this film has nothing to do with The Big Lebowski. Some scenes are quite entertaining on their own, but as a whole it's a bit messy and goes nowhere. It doesn't get boring, also because of the cast with quite a few well-known names and nice characters.

It's nice to occasionally come across a film that apparently doesn't go down everyone's throat, but that really falls perfectly for me. That makes it worth having your own opinion and writing it down.
I don't really need to talk about the story - it's about nothing, and it's not going anywhere. What matters is the absurd characters and the situations, and they are really genius. That already starts with Christopher Walken's relaxed prison warden. And the most beautiful role - perhaps precisely because you don't expect it, because it is so different from what you are used to from her - is Tautou's. Delicious. Beautiful in fresh oversaturated colors in the picture, and with a pleasant music.
Other than that, I honestly don't really know what to say about it. But it's a wonderful movie. Watch wonderfully relaxed and marvel at the laid back attitude to life of Jesus and his friends. Then you soon get the idea that he has it better than most people.
Thanks to hairdresser by the way, I hadn't made the link to Les Valseuses. It's been a while since I've seen that one. Nice to look up again, I was already somewhat planning to pick up some of Depardieu's earlier work.

Despite the lousy score, I was still curious about this. But unfortunately this was not for me either.
The problem is that with a "Big Lebowski Spin-off" certain expectations are created. If it turns out that it is a remake of a completely different film, then those expectations are not exactly fulfilled. It's nice and nice that Turturro likes vague French 70s films, but that doesn't mean that half a century later it works in a different setting.
For these reasons you get a meat-nor-fish movie that goes nowhere and in which characters walk around who don't get beyond typos.
2 stars, because Tautou is still going strong.
