Fortunately, Brandon does not disappoint

It took a while before it finally arrived. After Antiviral I had expected quite a bit and the buzz around this film was also quite positive, nice to see that it turned out to be more than justified in the end. Find this even slightly better than Antiviral.

Brandon is a bit in the same boat as his father. Body horror with sci-fi elements. But he puts a little more emphasis on the styling, which appeals to me more personally. The theme of this film may not be super original, but the execution certainly is.

Acting is good, visually it's delicious, soundtrack a bit easy but certainly contributes and it doesn't really sink in anywhere. If he continues on this path, it will become a favorite director, hopefully he won't have to wait so long for his next one.

4.0* and a extended review

Rubbish. Lots of hip camera tricks, lots of fluorescent, explicit violence, lots of avant-garde artworks in the background, it has to come across as artistic and it does so in a self-righteous way. Everything to impress visually, but otherwise one big gaping void around it, with meaningless dialogues, sleep-inducing acting, vague content. It had to be a real "Look what I can do" movie. Also smart of him to immediately launch an uncut version, that automatically creates the necessary hype.

Holy shit this was awesome! When I looked at the description, I was already interested. But when that brutal opening came, I was immediately drawn into the film. It's very disturbing and super gory and it's all practical effects. The acting is pretty good, especially by Christopher Abutt. The cinematography and the way it is filmed are both great. And don't forget that great synth score. This is the best horror movie of 2020 in my opinion! I can't wait to see more of the young Cronenberg's work. I think he has a bright future ahead of him.
