A simple but thorough thriller that stays neatly within the lines, and therefore does not distinguish itself anywhere. It's a shame that the film has been given the Mystery genre, which is misleading in my opinion. Probably linked to Clancy's clairvoyance, but it doesn't have a mysterious character anywhere. Everything is neatly explained, plenty of opportunities to put in a surprising plot twist, but the film doesn't dare to do that. Hopkins gets old but remains fun to watch. Eventually became a gray middle engine. *3.0

Actually pretty good. In the beginning I was a bit annoyed by the fast editing, a bit of unnecessary cutting and pasting for people who are conversing in a conference room. The choice of the different shots was therefore not always justified, but the further the film progresses, the more interesting the visual also looks. Very nice close-ups and even freezes of the time with, among other things, a bottle of milk and a newspaper hanging in the air.

I also liked the story with an original idea. It lacks some tension here and there, but it didn't lose my interest. What I would have liked was that various diseases were explained more explicitly, possibly diseases that a normal viewer does not even know. It doesn't always have to be cancer that needs to be the focus. Every illness deserves attention and as a film viewer you learn something with it.

The music is really cool on several levels, I must say. Hopkins does a great job as always, Jeffrey Dean Morgan can't be separated from Negan but he succeeds. I recently saw Abbie Cornish in Geostorm, she likes roles in the FBI. Farrell was a bit of an odd choice to me and perhaps lacked some background. You don't have to watch Solace for the acting, but the style, the story and the soundtrack are above average.

Mediocre.

Visually still quite stylish and also delivered with a brisk pace, but Solace still sounds too much like a poor man's Se7en. The same tune, although embellished with a 'seer', to give it another dimension. That extra fact actually sounds more like a Nicolas Cage film. Anthony Hopkins is therefore quite miscast. His autopilot is known, there is nothing more to do.

2.5
