Tokarev plot

"The past never stays dead"

Paul Maguire and his friends Kane and Doherty live in a world of crime. One night, they trap a Russian mobster who is on his way to take money to his boss. The proceeds are greater than they thought and with a suitcase full of money and a Tokarev (Russian weapon) they flee. The crime, however, sparks a protracted war between their Irish family and the Russian mafia. Years later, when Paul has left his criminal past behind and started a family, his daughter is kidnapped.

Very solid.

Was expecting quite little in advance, but my expectations have been exceeded. It is not Cage that transcends this, but I especially thought the direction was quite strong. It's certainly not the first time that low-rated films have done so well for me.

Cage is pretty good. It's that he's a bit of a joke in the movie world and often chooses a bit too dramatic roles, but otherwise he's quite a decent actor. Sometimes it's just a bit too much drama, but in general very decent.

The action was especially well portrayed. Nicely shot, intense action that was filmed quite nicely by a nervous camera. All the more intense of course, but the best part is that each action scene actually looks different.

Then you get nice different styles that all work best. It does have a long introduction, so the first half hour really falls into the drama genre. But after that there is actually a lot of action and thriller and that makes it more fun.

Nice catchy action, in a story with a nice hard tone. It is a pity that the violence is not appropriately hard, but with a catchy style. Nothing wrong with it in time. Only the action could have been a bit bloodier and harder.

Not that I expected much from this, but it was disappointing.

Lots of fuss and hassle, with Cage, Stormare and Glover not a sick cast, Nichols as eye candy, and the necessary brutal violence passes by, but nevertheless does not captivate me. A number of stupid things, such as only loading your weapon when you are already in the room and for example putting the weapon in first as I recently saw Mel Gibson do in Edge of Darkness, pass by. Like a portion of vague melodrama when he stabs Danny.

It's not just Tokarev, Tokarev just isn't at all and for the most part it is. Only the shooting in the apartment is still nice. Also very quickly forgotten...
