Looks like a typical Rohmer to me. A film about relationships (love) and emotions, about characters who don't know what to think and what to do. And a voice-over that conveys the thoughts of the character to the viewer. All this in a summery southern atmosphere of 'laissez faire'.

I just don't think it quite works out here. Few engaging characters who nag and are boring all the time. Thinking and doing are not on the same line. The fresh leaf of Haydée seems something to them, but they are also too vain to be yet another conquest and snack of the 'nymphomaniac'. They want to be in control and they want to decide for themselves what happens. Lots of bullshit, little content. Is in line with other films of his, but I still devalue this one.

One of Rohmer's 'Moral Narratives', which I did not like, to say the least. It's about two men who can't decide whether they want to sleep with a girl, while the girl doesn't actually know what she wants either. That's all it is. And they all need a lot of words for that. A genuine talk film, which the French had a patent on at the time and to which I am allergic. Lots of semi-profound nonsense and then a voice-over, to make it even worse.

Eric Rohmer believes that men and women interact in a complicated way and rarely understand each other well. This sometimes results in entertaining films, light-hearted, with a slightly erotic touch and often with a few beautiful girls. Usually looks nice. All that is missing here. A story of nothing, poorly acted and even the Mediterranean Sea does not produce beautiful images. Two stars is actually still too many.
