"How many men can one bullet kill?"
East Texas, 1989. Richard Dane, an ordinary man, shoots a man in self-defense. Then he has to deal with Ben Russell, a rough ex-con, and the father of the man who shot Dane. Russell is determined to avenge his son's death. But then things take a special turn.

Dragon of a movie. Expected more after seeing the trailer and reading the reviews. The beginning still looks good, but halfway through the film it starts to rattle on all sides. There is too much wrong and the viewer is left with too many question marks.

Hmm... saw it yesterday, without having any expectations. Then I notice a few things. Curious combination of film noir-esque moodyness with rudimentary, occasionally cheerful kind of rectitude, weird, slightly sought-after story. The three men do have a certain chemistry. Don Johnson had previously proven to hold his own alongside 'acting guns'. Shepard can put down a crank like no other. Hall was a bit colorless next to these two. Starring for all the 70's Detroit iron that cozy scene sways in and out. Not really 3.5*, but ahead.

Great film now seen for the second time with Dutch subtitles. Looks a little better. Found the twink fun and surprising and it will keep you captivated until the end. A bit slow, but that's not a big deal. Sadly, Sam is no longer with us. Cold in July has a somewhat strange title. Perhaps better would have been To Cover up or Under the Rug.
