With the 1970s behind them, top San Diego reporter Ron Burgundy is crawling back behind the news desk with his wife and colleague Veronica Corningstone. Don't you expect that if there is ten years between an original and a sequel, there is enough time to come up with something new? However, Adam McKay and Will Ferrell do what many directors and writers do when they succeed; a repeat with the occasional scoop on top. In the case of Anchorman, that's not so bad, because in the complete nonsense and chaos that the original brought us there is still some entertainment. Certainly a character like Brick remains quite comical and the many cameos are also quite funny. Nevertheless, with Anchorman 2 some wear marks are definitely visible here and there. It is therefore a good thing that the gentlemen leave it at that and do not make a third film. Otherwise, you'll end up with Hangover practices. And of course nobody wants that!

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is, logically, in the same vein as the first part in terms of humorous style, but surprisingly enough for a large part of the playing time also in terms of level. That's right, it's all a lot more over the top (Brick's 'funeral' and the car accident, for example), and overall a bit flatter and less smart written. But still I had a great time with it, and there is a great amount of jokes in the first hour, say. The whole cast returns and is still a lot of fun. Steve Carell has received a popularity boost in the ten years since the first part, clearly noticeable in his more prominent presence in this film, but Ferrell, Rudd and Koechner also remain very funny in their type roles. However, from the moment that Burgundy goes blind and everything goes downhill for him , the film experiences a dip. It is also here that the two-hour playing time makes itself felt negatively; way too long of course. The whole last part took too long, which makes it less interesting and also less funny. Except for one big moment; the fight scene. It's still hilarious, with all those random cameos. That just ends the film on a good feeling.
In any case, this kind of humor always puts a smile on my face and this Anchorman 2, especially for such a late sequel, is of a very decent level. Thick 3*.
