Alan Partridge has many ups and downs in his life. As a television host, he is responsible for killing a guest on a live broadcast. Now he is a presenter at his own radio station North Norfolk Digital. However, his station is about to be taken over by a major media conglomerate and renamed Shape. Things take a dramatic turn when Alan is dragged into an armed siege in Norfolk.

Series like this never benefit when they make the transition to the big screen, and Alan Partridge is no exception. It drags on, and the obligatory cinematic plot doesn't make things much better. The level of humor is also very inconsistent and reaches a massive low at one point. While Coogan as Partridge remains very entertaining because he is such a flamboyant character, he unfortunately doesn't lend himself to film.

The self-proclaimed 'King of Chat' Alan Partridge [Steve Coogan] is back at his old stomping ground, Radio Norfolk Digital, and betrays his loyal colleague Pat Farrell [Colm Meany] when it turns out the new owners want to fire someone. But Pat takes revenge by holding the radio station—and Alan's sidekick [Tim Key]—hostage. When it turns out Pat only wants to talk to Alan, the egocentric media personality seizes the opportunity to play a heroic role and give his career a new boost. Coogan effortlessly slips back into his endearingly self-satisfied alter ego, but you don't need to have seen the Alan Partridge series to enjoy this. Naturally, Felicity Montagu is back as Alan's loyal assistant Lynn for this successful reboot full of parodies of the action genre Alan Partridge thinks he has a leading role in. And I simply cannot criticize a film in which the protagonist wholeheartedly lip-syncs Roachford's 'Cuddly Toy'.

And moving on to another hostage situation with this Alan Partridge, which is somewhat of a familiar name, though perhaps that is because Alan Parsons is running through my mind. What this was and why I had recorded it was, however, a mystery to me; I may have only done so because Steve Coogan seemed interesting or the film might have been serious. But that turned out not to be the case, and frankly, I found this a horror from beginning to end.
So, a radio station that is taken over with layoffs and reforms looming—something that doesn't sit well with one of the employees, who takes action and holds the whole thing hostage, in which Partridge becomes involved as a mediator against his will. In itself, not a bad idea with an okay cast, and there are a few jokes that are actually funny, such as the hideous broadcast bus at the end or the caller's joke suggesting that Pat should kill everyone, women first. But unfortunately, those are small bright spots in a film that otherwise fails to impress for a single moment.
Because that sour face of talkative chef Partridge puts me off after just a few minutes—something that is supposed to be satire or humor but doesn't work for me. And the rest of the film unfolds no differently, with a lot of dialogue and text where the tone is mostly sarcastic and the humor regularly has a painful edge to it, and in my eyes, is mostly painfully bad. Furthermore, an attempt is made to liven things up with the necessary weird characters in strange relationships, which often brings an awkward kind of humor. But as you might guess, it doesn't click with me for a single moment, and I am therefore very glad that this relatively short film is over quickly. Not my kind of humor, not for me, no passing grade.
