The Goose Woman plot
A celebrated opera diva with the stage name Marie de Nardi loses her voice and reputation after the birth of her illegitimate son Gerald. Marie then returns to her own name Mary Holmes and returns to her hometown, where she is forced to live in a shabby shack and keep geese. Years later, a controversial murder case takes place in her town. Hoping to become a celebrity again, Mary claims to have witnessed the murder. Her dreams of glory, however, abruptly disappear when Mary discovers that her now-grown son Gerald was involved in this murder.
