A pretty entertaining anthology film. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are the highlights of this film for me in terms of acting. Although I must say I find it a shame that Cushing had to speak with such a fake German accent for this role. It sounds a bit weird.

In the other leading roles, we see Donald Sutherland, among others, who played one of his first roles with this.

The stories aren't scary anywhere, but they are all entertaining in their own way. I liked the first two stories, but their endings lacked impact. With the third story, I felt the opposite. A strong ending, but the "Voodoo story" didn't do much for me.

The fourth story is particularly strong because of the moral incorporated into it.

The fifth story is simply completely entertaining and quite strong, making it, in my opinion, perhaps the best of the five.

The ending was to be expected, but was nicely and atmospherically executed.

Not for everyone, but fun for fans of horror films from this era.

And here we go with the five horror stories: the first werewolf story isn't particularly special (2*), but story two about an aggressive ivy is very entertaining (there needs to be much more plant horror, good sub-genre) (4*), story 3 is musical voodoo with some comedic elements and is perfectly acceptable (3*), Number 4: Christopher Lee as a nasty art critic delivers the highlight of the entire film (4*) and then we conclude with Donald Sutherland and a vampire and that one holds up reasonably well too, although the denouement earns the plus points here (3*).

Peter Cushing as Dr. Schreck doesn't really get a chance to make anything special of it, although the ending is fine again.

Nice!

An anthology film that I hadn't read up on at all beforehand. Although there is often a feeling in the air that this is a bit of a friends' project, I must say that those friends have built up good statuses individually. So, icons meet on the train, and each of them dies in a personally attributed story.

The advantage is that each story remains high-quality and isn't afraid to borrow a bit from the imaginative. In fact, they all work in their own way and attach their own horror concept to each. These ideas aren't very original, nor are they beautifully executed, but they are entertaining nonetheless. You don't often see anthology films that don't have a single miss, but this film hits almost every mark.

Perhaps not memorable enough and sometimes acted a bit clumsily, but all in all, I enjoyed myself. I don't need to judge the stories separately, because in principle they all share the same criticism. So, a very consistent anthology film, which I had absolutely no trouble with. Entertaining, fast-paced, but nowhere spectacular. More than satisfactory as far as I'm concerned.
