"Two's company, three's a crime."
The irresistible Joe and the melancholy Terry are fugitive bank robbers with only one goal in mind: to enjoy their paradise in Mexico. They only have a few more robberies to go before that. Their approach is simple. They visit the bank manager without violence the night before the robbery. They enjoy dinner there, stay the night and the next day the director helps them safely rob the bank. This approach makes the overnight bank robbers like Robin Hoods wildly popular, even with the bank executives. Unfortunately, things get more complicated when the unstable, very beautiful but above all stubborn personality Kate comes into their lives. Kate joins the bank robbers and steals not only the money, but also their hearts.

I think I had to sigh from the very beginning of the film. A quick peek and it turns out that I still have 115 minutes to go. *sigh*
What they actually want to show here are two bank robbers who have to appear sympathetic and casually make their way from A to B. It's not funny, it's far from real, it's just not fun. I have to admit that Thornton looks better than Bruce Willis and Cate Blanchet is secretly quite fun. What is really too annoying for words is the jolly atmosphere that is constantly present. "Ma'am, we need your car." Answer: "Okay, giggle giggle". Bandits is full of that sort of thing. The love triangle is something you should leave in all those nasty rom-coms. That doesn't work here either. What remains is a fairly aimless film of which the end is practically revealed in the beginning. That actually gives you a good reason to ignore Bandits. Unless, like my girlfriend, you have a completely incomprehensible soft spot for Bruce Willis.

Great movie with a nice cast who play together perfectly. Billy Bob Thornton is funny as the idiosyncratic neurotic, Bruce Willis here is the Bruce we really like and Cate Blanchett shows here again that she is a high-level actress. She plays so convincingly, has class and looks.
Entertaining movie! 7/10
