Special Navy Commander Waters (Bruce Willis) and his team have to complete a highly risky mission in the jungles of Nigeria. The fate of the American doctor Lena Kendricks, who works for Doctors Without Borders, lies in their hands when the country becomes entangled in a bloody civil war. Fairly superficial film that mainly revolves around tough men with a small heart, the necessary sentiment and unbelievable plot twists. In the beginning it still has something with the necessary detail for horror and atrocities but after half I start to get particularly annoyed by the 'stupidity' of the SEALs led by Willis, but also by the lack of tactics and fire control. That is purely directing and script of course, but in that sense very mediocre. Especially that shooting scene at the end where they first pull up, then pull back, walk into their own firing line and are 'spraying' like they're watering the garden. Just mediocre, and an irritation for me.
Anyway, for the average an exciting and nice film perhaps, but not for me.

Excellently filmed action/war film by Fuqua that also comes across as realistic until the last half hour. Bruce stars as a rigid lead lieutenant in a rescue squad in the African jungle. His men have to rescue a doctor (Belucci) from a refugee camp in Nigeria. However, she has no intention of abandoning the people of the camp.
The action is beautifully portrayed and the shootings sound realistic. Like users below, it reminded me of the Vietnam War. There is a remarkable amount of attention for the atrocities of the rebels. Bruce's men also have to endure it. The ending is bombastic, less realistic but spectacular. The sentimental stuff didn't really affect me, although I'm usually up for it. The part in which Bruce half-dead informs his boss about the mission and interrupts it is hilarious..

Tears of the Sun is a war film that rests on inscrutable sentiment and an actor who has rarely proven to be able to live up to this. Still, the effect in image and sound is quite nice. So good to eat with a grain of salt.
