We Are What We Are plot

"Blood is the strongest bond."

The story is about a family with an uncontrollable appetite for meat. Frank, the father, runs the failing family business and as a pastime he collects old watches in an old shed. Emma, the mother, is a devout religious woman who has the arduous task of looking after the children in a small village hit by the economic crisis. And then there's the kids: little Rory has quite the imagination and is in a constant battle with monsters in the basement. Rose and Iris, the beautiful blond teenage daughters, are characterized by their purity, until they realize that they must continue the family tradition of the Feast of Lambs: a gruesome ritual inherited from their ancestors, the first settlers...

Hungry religious freaks.

A surprisingly fine slow burner. The mystery surrounding the family is slowly revealed, but it never becomes tedious as the underlying tension and the gray rural environment and insight into the family contribute to the overall atmosphere of the film.

The ending of the movie was a little different. But also very logical.

Remake of the Mexican horror film of the same name in which sisters Iris [Ambyr Childers] and Rose Parker [Julia Garner] must decide whether and how to perform their cannibalistic traditional ritual after the death of their father [Bill Sage]. The mutual relationships are better worked out and Mickle's stylish image direction makes this a superior remake, but the melancholy, sometimes downright melodramatic approach keeps the viewer at a distance.

Entertaining horror piece, initially more focused on the atmosphere and quite slow getting going, but gradually more gore too, the result is quite nice. Haven't seen the original from Mexico yet, but it seems to score less high than this one.
