Well, I wasn't blown away by part 1, but part 2 was absolutely cringeworthy. I didn't have much confidence in this prequel. For me it is comparable to part 1.

So moderate. Ringu 0 looks more attractive and less low-budget, but it completely lacks excitement. It is a drama that makes little impression and sometimes drags quite a bit.

Wow!

I've watched Ringu 1, Ringu 2 and now Ringu 0 back to back, but in my opinion the series is getting better and better so far! In this part we get a look into Sadako's past and gosh, I thought the drama was so incredibly strong! I really felt sorry for Sadako because how said everything that goes wrong is judged while as a viewer it is clear that the 2nd (split) half is behind all the misery!!
For me this is really a Psychological Drama/Horror and I thought this was a beautiful but incredibly heartbreaking film....
I have one negative point and that is that certain points (More into the split personality and how this came about) could have been highlighted more. I think the film could have been an hour longer!
In addition to the many Slasher, Splatter and Exploitation Horror films that I watch, this kind of more tragedy-based Horror is also interesting from time to time!
Beautiful film and oh yes, great soundtrack!

☆4.5

It's not uncommon for major horror franchises to create a special movie to expand on the past a bit, but in the case of Ring 0: Birthday it even comes from book material. Unfortunately, it has to come with the same (poor) stylization as the previous parts, to which director Norio Tsuruta can only add some nice shots sporadically. The horror is almost completely gone and the drama is greatly increased, but without compelling content that is not exactly the strongest choice to make. The acting is not bad, but the events simply barely make sense. A playing time of 98 minutes quickly feels like an eternity, despite the small progress in the visual field.
