Trance plot
"Don't be a hero."
Auctioneer Simon teams up with underworld boss Franck's gang to plan the daring theft of a masterpiece by Goya during a major public auction. However, when Simon doubles up and scams the gang, Franck violently retaliates and knocks him unconscious. In the wake of the theft, Simon stubbornly - and perhaps cleverly - insists that this violent trauma is playing tricks on his memory and that he no longer knows where he hid the masterpiece. Unable to force Simon to reveal the painting's location, Franck and his gang reluctantly enlist the services of a charismatic hypnotherapist Elizabeth Lamb, hoping to get him to talk that way.

Mediocre film about an auctioneer who teams up with a gang of criminals to steal a painting. The film certainly starts well, but the plot gradually becomes more complicated and also more unbelievable (where you are really only waiting for the denouement). The soundtrack itself is good, but often too emphatic.

It's a good movie that left me wondering how it would turn out. The film can count on a good script and some suitable actors (especially Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson). And yet it never really gets special. The focus is mainly on the plot, the rest moves to the background. This makes it fascinating and forgetful at the same time. Certainly not bad, but never memorable. It's also rather brushed off and the characters are quite well-behaved within the concept of the story. When you see the names of the cast and crew, I expected more.
The three main actors are actually doing well, only real chemistry is lacking between them. Furthermore, the atmosphere is quite clean I must say and without that extra chemistry, I miss that human touch. That is not always necessary, but in a film like this more so.
As said, a fascinating film, but never memorable and lacking in personality.
