Zwei unter Millionen plot

Berlin 1961, just before the construction of the Wall. Karl (Hardy Krüger) works in the market halls of East Berlin during the day and waits in West Berlin at night. It is relatively easy to move from one sector to another. Karl dreams of owning his own pub and has something in mind. He gets to know Christine (Loni von Friedl), who has come from Rostock to the former state capital. Christine tries to help him and she has rich family in Düsseldorf, who are willing to lend a hand. Karl bids on the cafe, but a mysterious bidder pushes the price up.
