Tired of being bullied, Yang Luchan leaves for Chen Village to learn the martial art of Tai Chi. In a painful way, Luchan learns that it is forbidden for the villagers to teach an outsider Tai Chi. He is repeatedly challenged by strong men, old women and children alike and loses all battles. But when a terrifying army of soldiers with strange machines appears, they realize that they must entrust the stranger with the powers and knowledge of Tai Chi to save their village.
