Pitch Perfect plot

"Get pitch slapped."

Two competing a cappella singing groups, the Barden Bellas (all girls) and the Barden Treblemakers (all boys), compete to win the “International Championship of Collegiate A Capella” (ICCA), held each spring at Carnegie Hall . However, the Barden Bellas face personal conflicts: their singer Chloe has voice problems, many of them are college graduates, and their leader Aubrey desperately tries to keep the group together. Then the first-year student Beca Mitchell is included in the group. The rebellious Beca has good ideas, but they are routinely slashed by Aubrey. Meanwhile, Beca tries not to fall in love with Jesse, a new member of the Treblemakers.

“You girls are awesome... ly horrible. I hate you. kill yourselves. girl power! Sisters before misters!”

In fact, Pitch Perfect shouldn't have been made for me at all (and it probably isn't) but I did enjoy this movie quite a bit. Singing, dancing, a girl group with different characters who have to work together, the boys who are only allowed to show up as love interest... And yet I quite enjoyed it.

It's all not very high-end and the problems the lead actress faces are not new, but the tempo, the music and the humor make it all easy to digest. Kendrick is a reasonable lead actress, but the strength of the film lies in the side characters. Wilson is (still here) funny and works better as someone who can sometimes do her thing than as a leading lady. And Snow, Camp, DeVine etc. all get to do their thing and it's pretty funny sometimes. The less attention paid to the romantic subplot, the better. And the tunes stay in your head for a long time, that is.

Well, this isn't really my kind of movie. I really don't like this kind of music, and I don't even like the forced, cheerful, action-packed atmosphere that somehow seems to go with it.

And then the politically incorrect commentator is still on the verge of funny at times, and Fat Amy comes close too. If only that was really seriously bitten and viciously turned on... but apparently too much to ask for a stereotypical American film. And I must also say that the actresses in the film itself are still distinguishable, but when I check that on IMDB they all look very similar - generic b*tches. With the exception of Anna Kendrick, of course, who has a nice star vehicle for this. And maybe it was time for that. Not that that makes it a good movie, but maybe just on the verge of being digestible.

Great movie, although I missed the comedy a bit. What comedy was supposed to represent, was often far too thick. I think the genre of romance fits better with this than actual comedy. All that puking is not necessary for me, this is also an example of 'being too thick on top', so terribly exaggerated.

Normally music movies don't appeal to me, I don't like whole movies with only singing. Yet years ago I decided to watch this film, after all, it is also part of my guilty pleasure Chick Flick. Never regretted it and watched it for the second time today. The film itself is quite predictable, I think it could have been a bit more out of it. Certain clichés are also (fortunately) not used here, just think of stereotypes. Well, stereotypes are used, but not the fixed riff that occurs in many of these types of films.

The acting is generally good, I'm a Kendrick fan, but not Wilson at all. Find her acting too over the top. This was probably largely due to her role, but I also generally don't like her in other films. The reason why she called herself Fat Amy was a nice thought, but otherwise I thought that too much attention was paid to being fat than to her other talents.

I'm having a great time with this film, because I don't just turn it on for the second time. In the genre this film could have been counted as one of the better ones, but find a number of negative points just a bit too negative to actually place it there. 3.5*.
