After Kevin Costner wandered around a world full of water in Waterworld, he can now imagine a world after a nuclear war. I still remember seeing most of The Postman about 10 years ago and now it was time to see it again. Fortunately I also managed to score the out of print DVD on Marktplaats.

The Postman is a very nice movie. This time it is not a ruined city but the American countryside. The story is a bit on the thin side, but many other things do keep you interested. Kevin Costner also played very well and Larenz Tate also had a nice role at his age. The scenery is still the best part of the film. The world after the destruction looks very much like the Stone Age and that always fascinates me, the way it is portrayed and that people try to make something with the remains. What can sometimes be annoying is that excess drama, but anyway. Furthermore, this film could in principle also belong in the Western genre. BTW, the film also reminded me a bit of the old comic book series: Simon van de Rivier.

I also thought that the role of the singer and guitar player Tom Petty was a high flyer.

Otherwise a very good movie worth watching. A bit too much "god bless America" but that doesn't matter. The Postman certainly managed to charm me.

Great apocalyptic movie. Kostner plays a convincing role as Postman. The original story is told smoothly with beautiful pictures here and there. The long sit didn't bore for a moment. Actually, there is not much to criticize about this film if it weren't for the lack of depth in the characters. And that's a shame. Funny detail that the "once famous" Tom Patty plays along and that Kostner also directed this film himself, just like Waterworld and Dances With Wolfs. He must have had a lot of trouble with that.

Mediocre film in a post-apocalyptic world where a postman gives people hope again. The story is all overly sentimental and too long. The acting is also quite disappointing. The film has the look of a western and otherwise looks fine.
