What a disaster.

It's that I like brunettes, the leading lady looks nice and comes into the picture a few times, but that's about all.

Again, those slick commercial Canal + productions from the French in the early 2000s. They remain easily digestible.

Now we have this vampire movie... well, it should be a vampire movie, because this age-old term kind of stays in the background. We follow the stubborn Antoine who investigates a mysterious person, the certain Jordan. Who is Jordan, we do not know. What we do know is that Antoine doesn't really make friends with doormen or bartenders. But then we get closer to the truth; for example with the mysterious and sensual Violaine, Jordan's sister, who seduces Antoine.

This is formed in an intoxicated run-up, with the right atmospheres of the tents where Antoine researches; enhanced by cool soundtracks and rusty editing and quirky characters. As if everyone is crazy, aggressive, cynical or strange. At times, for example when we are driving through the streets of Paris with a jazz tune in the background, you get a bit of a film noir feeling. In addition, partly due to Antoine's rudeness, this film is regularly enhanced by a good dose of dry humor and there also seem to be enough surprises and side roads. Eg that dogfighting location, the evacuation of that club, and even some well edited action scenes.

And yes, those scenes in the pool are almost suspiciously comical. As if Love Bites wants to eat from all sides.

I thoroughly enjoyed this work. Good acting, a variety of genres and elements. And yes, that creepy sexy Asia Argento as icing on the cake.

4.0*

Disconcerting rubbish that really falls short on all fronts. The screenplay is messy, boring and uninteresting. The characters are all extremely annoying and insufferable and there is no atmosphere to be found.

All in all, this film is a colorful mix of all kinds of genres but nowhere mysterious, sensual or comical.

Bottom line, it is mainly an annoying crime film in which two lost vampires walk around, who might as well not have been in it.

The only bright spot is Asia Argento who is extremely suitable as a Gothic vampire but comes out far too little because everything else is painfully below average.

Huge disappointment and simply a bad movie.

For the masochists among us, it's now on Netflix.
