Kaik... I think sex for the elderly should be banned... All kidding aside: what a fun but also courageous film. For the older generation, talking about intimacy and sex is a problem, let alone bringing it up to a counselor (great role by Steve Carell!). Can hardly be called a comedy, of course, more an outright drama with light-hearted and sometimes painful moments that would have made the laughter (of a farmer suffering a toothache?). You can hardly believe that the beautiful cashier from The Deerhunter, the Karen Blixen from Out Of Africa, the tough senator from Rendition and the insecure lady in this film are played by one and the same actress. Tommy Lee Jones only had to play his grumpy self, nevertheless because of the often awkward setting he did so with gusto. A little too happy ending, with a humorous epilogue during the credits.

Nice as a snack, but nothing more. The film does not sparkle audiovisually, but mainly has to rely on the plot and acting. The latter is definitely okay, including Steve Carell, who I didn't expect in a more serious role.

It's somehow refreshing to see a movie about older people; Most movies are about younger people anyway. The marital troubles occasionally raise a smile, but the film is never really humorous. It is all well worked out, also feels quite realistic, but eventually ends up with a feel-good ending as expected. Not very startling, and I expect to have forgotten most of it within a month. 2*.

Painfully bad film in which an attempt is made to more or less break a taboo, but the spicy but oh so brave dialogues make a big mistake. Jones as a grumbler remains fun, but the developments around his character make no sense suddenly he starts talking about his 'spicy' sexual fantasies. This is completely inconsistent with how his character is portrayed.
The scenes with Carell are terrible in their narrow-mindedness. The predictable course doesn't do the film any good either.
