Pity this movie. I'm not against teen movies in advance. Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, The 5th wave, Divergent, Golden compass, Percy Jackson, Maze Runner, Narnia and other films are certainly not bad and have something in their own way. Mostly aimed at teenagers, so for me it's nothing more than entertainment. The Host is in that row, although it dangles at the bottom. Not very creative and not exactly beautiful to look at.

The story takes place between a teen version of Terminator vs Invasion of the body snatchers. Unfortunately, it also has no more to tell than the pursuit of a group of rebels. The idea of the two souls in one body isn't bad, but it doesn't exactly work in practice. Saoirse Ronan is nevertheless a strong actress who is not really in her place. Which I think has to do with the direction, because the game with the voices is mainly played outside the set.

The result is a somewhat boring and not exactly beautiful film. Too cliché and rather with the cash register in mind than wanting to unpack. If you want to see movies as a teenager, you better look up the movies at the beginning of my review.

“It's a strange world.”

Mediocre young adult film. The Host knows how to make a dull film from an intriguing premise without any tension or interesting storylines/characters, but of course with an unimaginative love story. Ronan's acting pays for a lot, and William Hurt also knows how to make a lot of it. But the abominable dialogues they sometimes have to recite... I expected a bit more from the director of Gattaca.

Unfortunately, quite a setback.

It is a mystery to me that this film has been given a thriller genre.

it's much more of a drama.

The whole, on the other hand, lacks any kind of depth.

If you are looking for a strong philosophical sci-fi then I can certainly recommend Arrival (2016). You can safely skip this one. *2.0
