The King and the Chorus Girl plot
"Reign, Reign go away! His Royal Highness wants to play!"
Alfred VII was once the young and handsome king of an empire of two million inhabitants. Now there is nothing left of that and he only has Count Humbert and Countess Anna. Alfred still has enough money to enjoy a lazy life in France with enough servants. He drinks excessively and hasn't seen the light of day in years. During a night out, a backing singer flirts with Alfred and he invites her to his apartment, as he often does. When she arrives, Alfred appears to have been drinking unconscious.
