The story is very slow, but interesting to follow. This is thanks to the cast who know how to give their roles a good interpretation. Fortunately, it is also not too corny. Striking and surprising role by Helen Hunt. Solid. 6/10

“I believe in a God with a sense of humor. I would find it absolutely intolerable not to be to able blame someone for all this.”

The Sessions is a movie that I can't do much with. Hunt and Hawkes' acting is strong and the drama surrounding Hawkes is well worked out. But it is also boring and even a bit flat at times. A story about a man with an iron lung who is confined to bed should evoke some emotions, but only the scenes around the sex therapy work. Especially because of Hunt's excellent acting.

"Love is a journey"

The Sessions tells the story of Mark O'Brien, a man who is on an iron lung for most of the day, but also a man with a lot of humor. The film is thus a kind of tragicomedy with a fervent desire from the main character. He doesn't want to die a virgin.

Not easy if you can't even get out of bed. Fortunately, there is help. I thought it was a great story and I didn't know it existed. At least I now assume that so-called "sex surrogates" exist. Helen Hunt is playing strong here, and as she approaches her sell-by date to go completely naked, she's throwing out all the stops. The sex scenes are not really explicit, so it is not porn, but for a feature film it is already quite daring. But Helen Hunt will also have done this for nothing. I'm not sure, but I can imagine that there is some kind of taboo around this. At the end she also just says she's a housewife.

The ending is fine and gives a good feeling. Mark's life seems complete and ended better than he could have dreamed. Maybe it's a shame that the love of his life gets little role.
