Nice sketch of a - for a change - realistic sociopath. Just found him credible. Initially you have little idea of what is hiding behind his facade, partly due to his rather clumsy stature, but gradually you find out that he is up to one and the other. Strong acting from Corbet; the film largely leans on his creditable performance.

Visually it is also nice: beautifully framed shots and occasionally oppressive close-to-the-skin filming alternate with each other. However, the music is of varying quality; some songs were still okay, but the rather dissonant rattle pop that seemed to have been thrown at it haphazardly didn't make me warm or cold. However, there is a point of criticism in this otherwise strong film.

Small 3.5*.

Positive points are the disturbing atmosphere, the camera work and the acting in an interesting story that unfortunately cannot deliver what you are waiting for towards the end. You may see flashes of certain events, but in the end it all remains a bit obedient and you have the exact feeling that the film as a whole is not completed. Shame. Would like to see more of Simon. The camera work is fine, especially the night scenes in Paris, the long car chases where the actors feel the camera on their necks. Brady plays his role as Simon well, but I also liked Mati Diop and Constance Rousseau. In the end I was left a little hungry. 5/10

Strange psychological drama arouses interest with an unusual main character, his strange relationship with a prostitute and the explicit - and deliberately uncomfortable - sex scenes. Fresh graduate Simon travels to Paris in hopes of working through his emotional and sexual frustration over the end of a long-term relationship. Director Antonio Campos manages to create a claustrophobic, oppressive atmosphere, but ultimately leaves you frustrated as a viewer because it leads nowhere. It is difficult to identify with the often repulsive main character and while there is little to criticize about Brady Corbet's playing, Campos does not provide sufficient insight into the reasons for Simon's behavior.
