What is definitely lacking in this part is the development of the main characters. Shouldn't be much, the genre doesn't demand that either. But now it is very poor. Perhaps not difficult in itself, since they wanted good dancers in the first place, instead of dancing actors. On the other hand, you notice that in the dance scenes. There are many more and much more of those things that are looked at than a real story. If you've already watched the 4th installment of a dance film franchise, you know what to expect. The poor story is largely made up for with some strong flash mobs, a genre that was much more popular a few years ago than it is now. But they are still worth the effort. Less than its predecessors and sometimes quite predictable, but fine if you like dance.

“And there's this Space-age technology called internet now.”

If you've seen one Step Up movie, you've seen them all. The story is mostly identical and only the location changes quite often. That is also the biggest plus of this fourth part, because Miami and dance is a perfect combination. In any case, the dance scenes look a lot better than in the previous parts, and the emphasis is also more on dance than on the story. As it should be, because the actors are clearly cast for it. Guzman and McCormick are not bad and have great chemistry. Predictable of course, but Miami, dance and beautiful ladies… Sometimes you have to count your blessings.

Dance #4.

Step Up has never been the most qualitative series in terms of content. It therefore appeals to a target group that does not have such a critical mindset, since everyone probably knows that there is enough to criticize. For example, the story regularly skips elements, the story is copied from a previous film and the acting is not special.

Despite this, Step Up has managed to bring in quite a large cast with even some appearances of characters who already showed up in the previous films. Other than that, however, this is a whole new setting that doesn't have much to do with the previous films. If you have seen it you will probably know some references, but otherwise not much background is needed to keep following all this.

However, I have also often mentioned about this series that there are few films that have better dance moves than the Step Up films. I just get jealous of these dancers and dancers in which directions they can steer their bodies. Very impressive, and also a bit better portrayed compared to the third part. I didn't expect that from Speer soon.

A chewed-out core is nicely decorated with excellent cinematography and a strong atmosphere. The story will never be special I'm afraid and the "with dancing you solve all your problems" message remains ridiculous, but it looks away very quickly. It is mainly a matter of waiting until they start dancing, because then this film comes to life. I wonder if the films are profitable enough for a potential sixth part.
