"Some doors should never be opened."

Annie returns home to attend her much-despised mother's funeral as a favor to her older sister. When she spends the night in her old bedroom, she feels something unfamiliar in the house. She enlists the help of a local agent and a psychic to help answer some questions surrounding her mother's death. When long-suppressed nightmares begin to resurface, a disturbing presence emerges in her childhood home.

Friendly. At least more solid than McCarthy's second, which is somewhere between something juicy and a shiver. In the end, nothing much came of it. This one throws it almost entirely on the latter and is quite adept at that. The interior of the house already helps.

Cramped corridors with wallpaper that almost gives you the creeps and a camera that almost makes the walls come at you. The mood is again timid, but with this opening also immediately uncomfortable and McCarthy manages to keep it indoors with a number of scattered teasing punches.

Outside there's a crime plot to keep things going. All quite effective and cleverly written, although the strange girl may be a somewhat weak intervention, but oh well. That the climax could have had a little more pepper is worse. Nevertheless, a deserving ghost film.

The Closed Covenant directed by Nicholas McCarthy is, to say the least, an asset to the genre. After torpedoing movies like Paranormal Activity where haunted houses take center stage with paranormal phenomena and ghosts, this is certainly an original story. The story has a beautifully developed and calmly constructive plot and is certainly creepy at times. Cinematographically not bad and reasonable to good acting certainly contribute to this. A plus is also the way of using audio, which certainly has not been used excessively.

Not your umpteenth "haunted" house happening.

This is all just a bit different.

Yes, there's a ouija board in there, and there's someone who is sensitive to the paranormal.

But nothing feels like dusty,,( literally after the house

The music score is, just like the film, subtle and striking.

And it's quite exciting,, would like to give a big enough here to lift the average. That's not the intention,, besides, you'll soon forget it. I suspect.

But just take it from me if you're looking for a supernatural movie that's very freshly directed with great acting.

And a good lock.

Are you good here ?
