Less sequel.

Not that Roth's parts were that high-quality, but this is really a step back. The nice thing about this part is that the introduction doesn't take up half the film. It's still on the long side, but not more than half this time, which I appreciate.

Acting is, as you can expect, not too good, Roth knew to find better actors. Spiegel removes a lot of traits that the previous part had and puts something else in return. So now no more children, and a different location, but with some twists. The opening is soon a good example of this.

In terms of gore, it's all down a notch. Part II already had less gore, but now they've really brought the general level down to standard bloodshed. It is now limited to 1 strong scene with filth. The rest is mainly a bit tame torture, and the techniques are also not exactly innovative anymore.

The look and cinematography have also changed, which makes sense given the location. Although it still looks great, it can't compete with the strong look of the previous parts. No more brutal appearance, but above all a slightly more polished look. It's not better, but fortunately not too dramatic.

The playing time is relatively short, but so was that of the previous parts. It's still smooth and it looks pretty nice, but it's not better no. The main change is probably that this part takes itself a little less seriously, but still stays within the horror boundaries. I had a good time, but this is the worst part of the series. I miss that brutal look and steely gore.

A decent opening and an attempt to give the characters a little more depth than was the case in Hostel II, but otherwise it's more of the same with a somewhat simplistic satirical undertone.

More of the same, although the approach is slightly different, with the horror being interpreted as a kind of entertainment show. Still less "spectacular" than part I. The new stuff is also a bit off and the gore isn't earth-shattering. Not that Roth did a great job in Part II, but taking the scepter to Spiegel didn't exactly work for the better either.

The starting point is a group of friends of which you know that there will not be too much left of that group of friends when it comes down to it. Hostel's target seems to overshoot its mark. It looks more like a revenge movie (which in itself is not wrong).
