Drama, based on historical facts, that emphasizes caste distinctions in India.

Rawly realistic and with some hard scenes.

In addition to the much suffering that the main character undergoes and the terrible revenge that results, there is also an eye for the special landscape where the event takes place and the music is quite appropriate.

Actually material for an adventure film that should not be experienced as such. It remains a real story that as a film may not always appear accessible or appreciable to Western eyes.

Indian culture is very diverse and extremely complex for Westerners to understand. We are also in a time frame of the 1970s - things change, but the reports that the Western media sometimes get about dismissed rape cases from India sometimes speak volumes. Not to mention those institutionalized forms of pedophilia with child marriages. I find caste society more fascinating to experience, although I cannot agree with it either.

It's all covered here. It's all very misogynistic. Derogatory and downright sexist, which gives you the feeling that it is self-evident within society. The introductory quote at the beginning of the film talks about the position of women who are on the same level as wild beasts.

And the women all suffer it, out of necessity, except for this Phoolan. She doesn't let herself be messed with and endures even more until she can't tolerate that anymore. Based on real facts, as if it wasn't bad enough.
