Pleasant surprise, this animated South Korean prequel to the entertaining Train To Busan. Things start off a bit slowly, but once they get going, this is an exciting and beautifully animated zombie film, which at times is even better than its live-action predecessor. In terms of plot, this is also strong, with a few (un)pleasant twists, especially towards the end.

With the animation Seoul Station, director Sang-ho Yeon, who is also responsible for the script, focuses on zombies, just like in Busanhaeng (2016) . Visually the film looks neat. Conventional and without many frills. In terms of content, the film follows the usual genre conventions and does not surprise. Yeon does enrich his film with social issues that are an excellent addition to the story.

The social focus is on the homeless population of Seoul, which is completely ignored by politicians and the housed population. Other social problems also float in the wake of the story. The incompetence of the police force and forced prostitution, for example.

The story is not original, but entertaining. The characters are interesting and the film allows itself some bloody scenes. At the end the story even has a twist that can be called surprising. The film rolls by at a pleasant pace. There are no really boring moments within the 90 minutes of playing time.

Seoul Station offers beautifully animated zombie entertainment that follows the recognizable paths in terms of content and also has something critical to say. Nice.

A nice zombie animation film. The city of Seoul is overrun with zombies and a few try to survive. A bit traditional with the traveling and the chance encounters with the zombies. Not very innovative, except that it is an animation film. The shouting in South Korean will scare some, but I do like Asian ranting. What was much more annoying were the frequent exaggerated tears that some characters had. Came across as rather childish.

Worth seeing? I think so. Quite a bit of blood as it should be. The zombies look good too. The plot is very standard. There is a surprising twist at the end. Not bad.
