Den Skaldede Frisør plot

"It started when everything was over."

The story takes place in Sorrento in southern Italy, where the young bride and groom Astrid and Patrick are having their wedding. The bride's mother is the beautiful but cancer-stricken hairdresser Ida - no hair on her head and just abandoned by her husband after 25 years of marriage. Ida's burly husband and his new blonde girlfriend, who has some difficulties with the Danish language, are also present at the wedding, as is the bride's brother, a soldier with an explosive temper. The English father of the groom is absent businessman Philip, who struggles every day with why he still lives in Denmark and doesn't seem to get over the tragic death of his wife.

The movie quickly reminded me of a Woody Allen movie. Ingredients such as "sunny city", "love", "bland or made-up humor" are therefore present. A European element is then the scene with papa (...). Now that the film finally got some original twists, it became a better drama than the average Woody Allen movie. Still, it turned out to be a rather bland, sluggish and made funny whole. I know better films from the director (the one of Bier is probably known to many) and some of the actors, such as:

Trine Dyrholm —to my taste, together with Sofie Gråbøl the best Danish actress of the current era — is once again in top form in this romantic film with a smile and a tear. Very predictable plot of course, but that's not bad at all. The coastal region of Campania in Italy lends itself like no other as a backdrop for these kinds of romantic films. As with other films by Susanne Bier, I was able to enjoy this for my convenience.

This isn't much more than your average rom-com, but somehow this one has something. Does it have to do with the unfortunate life of Ida, who, while recovering from cancer, finds that her husband finds a green leaf? Nice and more light-hearted role for Dyrholm here. I found Brosnan a bit clumsy and that had its charms.

The plot is certainly not original and it was already coming what was going to happen to both mother and daughter. A humorous approach here and there, but nothing special. And yet ... yet somehow it works.

Atmospheric and a great location, that's for sure. Entertaining and good to pick up once in a while. Once a completely different genre that we are used to from Susanne Bier.
