Former boxer Zach, talented Mixed Martial Arts fighter Tim, harassed store clerk Justin and wrestler Mike all come from different backgrounds. But they all share the same passion: fighting. They soon become loyal to their mutual, unorthodox trainer Case, a former UFC champion who has had his day. Case teaches them much more than just fighting and prepares them for a competition called the 'Beatdown', run by a local schoolboy and the impresario Max. When their mentor is framed by a bunch of mischievous cops, the men clap to find the traitor.

Don't think it's a bad movie! It is not the best and is not better than the first part

but it has a different approach. In this part there are actually 5 main characters and in the first part there were only 1 or 2.

I'm a fan of Michael Jai White myself. This man cares as much as he does

actions. The story is quite predictable. The things that happen are cliché

but that didn't bother me.

Nice film, no more and no less.

The appearance of Michael Jai White makes this second part of the Never Back Down series very interesting. In the end, this praise remains limited and there is little else positive to report. A lame plot and boring characters don't make a good movie. Michael Jai White would probably do better to trade the director's chair for his boxing gloves and leave it at that.

As soon as you see that Michael Jai White has taken on the task of director for a sequel to a pure fight film, you should expect little nuance. White also makes little effort to hide that, so you are stuck with a typical macho film. The first half, however, is mainly concerned with drama and structure, but all the backstories are so exhaustive that as a viewer you wonder why so much time is invested in it. The characters never flourish, but are varied enough to make the final phase (in which they start to beat each other to a pulp) somewhat more interesting. The blows are nice and hard, the fighting techniques are on-point and the tone remains crude enough for decent entertainment, but in the end it all remains B-material. Jeff Wadlow managed to provide the first part with significantly more adrenaline than White, while based on their filmography you would expect the opposite.
