Steven Soderbergh always knows how to attract famous actors, without doing anything with them. He will be a better friend than a director. And with the occasional fluke in the cinema, he doesn't scare his friends off of course. Haywire has a lot of potential. The story is not bad and also with Gina Carano a suitable lead in an action movie. The rest is somewhat miscast and is rather used as a name on a poster. He should have spent the money a little more on the finish. Now it comes across as rather low budget.

The film finds its way between a spy thriller, film noir and action film. But you never know how to find the right mix. It may be different and I don't need big explosions or inciting music or sound effects during brawls. And unlike Jason Bourne, there's less camera shake here because Carano is better at the action scenes. That she acts less does not have to be a problem in this genre.

A pleasant film that falls just short as a blockbuster and is too standard to continue as an alternative action film. Better than expected, but less than it could have been.

Bizarre to see Soderbergh's name attached to this average action film. A well-known but not bad story full of cross and double-cross with some tricks to pimp up the editing and the chronology, in the lead role a babe who can do a good job, a shitload of famous supporting faces (including Ewan McGregor who gives his childish haircut a nice twist with his fun role as traitor) and nice 70s film music à la Lalo Schifrin, but all in all this is [ i]much ado about nothing.

Haywire is a 13-in-1-dozen action film that wouldn't look out of place in the oeuvre of a Jean-Claude van Damme or Steven Seagal. What is striking, however, is that this film was directed by Steven Soderbergh, who once won an Oscar for the film Traffic and later the successful trilogy Ocean's Eleven, Twelve[/ i] and Thirteen made. It is therefore remarkable that a director of that caliber could not have made a better film out of Haywire. Nowhere is the film original or really exciting.

Like most action movies, she relies on the action rather than the plot or characters. Haywire fits right into that list. The action is good, although she often borrows a bit too much from films like The Bourne trilogy. Former MMA fighter Gina Carono stars. Like famous action actors such as Jean-Claude van Damme, Steven Seagal and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carano relies mainly on her physical presence and combat techniques. Her acting is very one-dimensional, but for a movie like this she's perfect. The battle scenes are well shot and are the highlights of this film, which was mainly shot in Ireland. A selection of well-known actors provided the various supporting roles, which means that this film still rises above the average action level.
