As a result of the (excellent) message from my predecessor, I tried this film a second time a year after the first viewing, also because I was still thinking about this film in October 2016, while in October 2015 I had very firmly stated that nothing of this film had stuck at all the very next day (yes, my beliefs are set in stone). And indeed this is a much stronger film than expected, with excellent interpretations, an atmospheric image of Paris today (where I have never been) and in the past (of which I have read a lot: Hemingway wrote beautiful books, but I I don't know if I could be in one room with him for very long) and a moral that isn't wrong at all in itself. Thanks for the poke in the ribs, stefan dias ! (From to ****)

With every movie I see I start to appreciate Woody Allen more. Midnight in Paris is an outright declaration of love to the city and its (sometimes illustrious) inhabitants. Cliche in almost everything: the images of touristy Paris, Hemmingway's one-liners, the Fitzgerarlds, the romantic story, etc. But so lovingly and intelligently executed that I can't wait to visit Paris again. Can't Woody Allen make a film about Rotterdam? Sounds like a nice assignment in the context of city sponsoring, at least you get value for money.

Even when revised, it remains a wonderful film to watch with an original story and yet very Woody Allen. Although the surprise was now gone. So half a star less.
