The Mikado plot
In ancient Japan, the penniless tailor Ko-Ko is named "Executioner of the Emperor" and must find someone to execute before the ruling Mikado arrives. Ko-Ko sets his sights on Nanki-Poo, a minstrel who is in love with the beautiful Yum-Yum. But Ko-Ko is also in love with Yum-Yum and that's why Nanki-Poo is already thinking about suicide. Ko-Ko then proposes that Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum be married for a month and then Nanki-Poo be executed by Ko-Ko. But Ko-Ko doesn't know that Nanki-Poo is the son of the Mikado...
