L'Assaut tells the true story of Flight 8969 from Algeria. On Christmas Eve 1994, four gunmen from the Islamic terrorist group GIA hijack the Air France plane in Algeria. Shortly after landing in Marseille, a French elite unit decides to storm the plane. Can they kill the four terrorists without incurring more victims?

Solid.
Normally, I leave nothing to be desired by this type of true-story-based film adaptation. Fortunately, this film has more to offer than merely stating the obvious and simply listing facts. Kudos, then, to Leclercq, who already made his mark with the equally enjoyable Chrysalis.
Visually impressive. The desaturated color palette, bordering on black and white, is dusted off once again; by now it is no longer original, though it certainly is fitting. It aligns closely with the precarious, progressively worsening situation. With the most impressive moment being the raid: it is striking how the turbulent action scenes make the film start to feel almost claustrophobic.
Furthermore, there is excellent, and above all believable, acting, especially from the four terrorists. In short: countless worse films in this genre. Ultimately, as a film, I just don't find it quite special enough to rave about it completely, but nevertheless, L'Assaut is certainly worth watching. 3.5*

Absolutely one of the better (French) films I have seen. (French films usually contain too many words in my opinion...) Suspenseful from beginning to end. Nice dark colors. A good and believable combination of fiction and real footage of the event from that time. A credible adaptation of the events. The men playing the hijackers, in particular, are frighteningly "real". Highly recommended!

Powerful film with a faithful reconstruction of a plane hijacking in 1994.
Cleverly and suspensefully constructed, and what is definitely good about the film: no bunch of subplots that distract from the seriousness and reality of the events.
Strong performances, especially these in the role of the hijackers.
