I don't really understand the overall fairly low rating. Saw it in the cinema at the time and turned it on again on netflix today. Found and still think he is very strong in this genre.

The sets are actually the most positive point that has stayed with me: sober and therefore effective. Lucas' house alone is actually the perfect location for a horror story like this. I read a lot of criticism of Colin O'Donoghue's performance, whom I only know from his work in the TV series Once Upon a Time. He may not be a world actor, but I thought he held up well here. Perhaps a little too modest at times, but on the other hand that also suited the skeptical, reserved character he took on here. Anthony Hopkins can really let loose, especially in the last half hour and therefore eagerly uses it.

Yet it is mainly the climax that ultimately ensures that The Rite remains a somewhat superficial film. The pace of the film is on the slow side. In principle, that is not a bad thing, but it does ensure that high expectations are created. The final finale doesn't quite live up to those expectations as far as I'm concerned. Suddenly the disaster has disappeared like snow in the sun and there is a faint scene in which Lukas and Michael say goodbye, but hardly show any emotions. So in the end the film left me with a somewhat unsatisfied feeling , while the film itself remained quite entertaining. The Rite is certainly not a punishment to sit out, but it does smell like a missed opportunity.

2.5*

A very strong film from start to finish! Beautifully presented, superfluous scenes have been omitted and presented quite realistically. The story itself is fiction, but the book was written in response to a journalist who wrote many stories. It is even a separate Exorcism department in Rome. And we see one such exorcist speaking in the extras. Rolling eyes shaking it all happens. The craziest things. It is not clear to me whether spitting out nails also occurs. But whether you believe it or not, these stories are special.

The film is very well put together and I am very surprised that The Rite is so poorly rated. Image and sound are well taken care of, locations look beautiful and the acting is excellent. I even dare to say that Anthony Hopkins is one of the best actors in the world, also a great role in this film. Especially his transformation. Sublime. But the devilish girl Rosaria played by Marta Gastini also plays a very solid role. Really chillingly good. That alone makes this film very special. This movie is never boring. He remains entertaining until the last minutes. I also think the whole atmosphere around it is very nicely done. Just take what Anthony is staying in. The cats finish it off
