Good movie introducing the character of Hannibal. It goes without saying that the comparison with 'Silence of the lambs' is obvious. Although the film does not reach the same level, it is still a pretty nice thriller with decent acting performances. Enjoyed watching this movie. In the last scene the link is immediately made to 'Silence of the lambs' & 'Clarice Starling'.

Quite a few well-known actors in this film. Hopkins is strong as in The Silence of the Lambs. I haven't seen many movies with Keitel, but aside from Taxi Driver, his characters always come across as "businesslike", "to the point" with authority and it's no different here. Solid, but not distinctive. Watson appears very convincing as a blind woman, Hoffmann's role is fairly insignificant. And then we come to Norton and Fiennes. I only know the latter from The Grand Budapest Hotel, where it's fantastic. I didn't recognize him back here. His character is not very impressive, really just pathetic, a kind of failed Goku who doesn't get stronger no matter how many times he yells "kamehameha". Norton is generally a fine actor, but I just don't believe him as a very bold FBI agent who sees details that others don't. I just don't see it in him.

Recording technically a better film than The Silence of the Lambs, but the atmosphere is less. Norton doesn't play his most convincing role as mentioned before, but the dynamic between him and Hopkins is of course already less than between Hopkins and Foster, who is brooding because of a hint of possible romantic feelings. The plot is also well developed, so I end up with 2.5*.
