Considering Ms. Bardot's status and the release date, I hadn't expected much, but I was pleasantly surprised. She plays a very young but damaged girl, with a tendency toward self-destruction. Men surround her who know a long-term relationship isn't likely, yet can't stay away from her. It doesn't really get to the point, and the ending is a somewhat forced happy ending (though subtle enough).

Bardot sometimes lapses into mannerisms, but it's understandable that she made a splash. Then there's the period, the setting... just crazy! I wouldn't rule out seeing her again someday.

Still, the pace is a bit slow, it's sometimes a bit messy, and the clothing is sometimes not very subtle. That costs a few points.

A dull romantic drama, only worth watching because of the presence of a still-young Brigitte Bardot. Not that her acting is good, but she is beautiful. The characters are reasonably well-developed, and thankfully, the whole thing isn't as bland as I expected, but the events fail to captivate, and the whole thing just meanders along aimlessly.

In many ways, an important French film that contributed significantly to the popularization of Saint-Tropez as a holiday destination. And, of course, Bardot portrays the free-spirited, indomitable, uninhibited woman who refuses to be tied down or ordered around. She demonstrates this by rebelliously walking barefoot. She wraps men around her finger. I found the story rather dull, but I do have praise for the way Saint-Tropez is used as a backdrop. Vadim managed to capture the heartwarming charm of the former fishing village as it looked 70 years ago.

The way Vadim portrayed his then-wife, Bardot, is sensual but never voyeuristic. Juliette's bipolar personality also surprised me somewhat, as I had expected a more superficial character.
