In the near future, the United States is in an economic crisis and violence is growing. Private prisons are being opened in an effort to curb crime. But instead of solving the problem, more gangs and killers are added. Upon his arrival at Terminal Island Prison, convicted murderer Carl Lucas attracts the attention of September Jones, an ambitious television personality. She directs and presents the reality program Death Match, in which dangerous prisoners compete against each other with all kinds of weapons. The declining viewership results in a change of the concept. Death Race, an extreme variant with converted cars, is born. The price is freedom, but will anyone be able to enjoy it?

A lot worse than the previous one
Much the same, only this time it looks a lot cheaper. For example, the chase scene was supposed to represent a city in America, but it was anything but.
I also found the action and camera work a lot less than in the previous part.
What also bothered me is the fake sound of the cars, for example, but also the voices of the actors were sometimes very poorly done, and you could clearly hear that it was redone in the studio.
Okay action movie, but no more than that. Don't have to see it again.

The 2008 Death Race prequel traces the origins of Death Race and its protagonist Frankenstein. The movie gets off to a disappointing start. No Jason Stathom or Tyrese Gibson and the compensation isn't really strong. Sean Bean is kind of bland and Ving Rhames is even worse. DeObia Oparei is not too bad, but is no Gibson. It's nice that Lists is already there and Danny Trejo is also doing well. Lead actor Luke Goss has yet to get going. He cannot make Stathom forget unfortunately.
After about 45 minutes it still comes loose. Setting up the new game Death Race and the hunt for Lucas makes it even more interesting than its predecessor. There's still plenty of action, cars and blood to keep you interested. It is striking that producer Anderson continues to keep the reins.
I'm looking forward to the third part, which should actually be the link between this film and the one from 2008. Maybe I should check out the 1975 original with Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine.
