Death Race plot
"Get ready for a killer race."
In the near future, a prison warden and her guards have concocted a gruesome game. The inmates must compete in a televised race that ends in death for many. Ex-driver Jensen Ames is wrongfully arrested and given the choice to participate in the race, wearing the mask of the popular racing hero Frankenstein, or rotting away in a cell.

Not bad and I always like Statham, but I thought the film as a whole was too dark and too gray. That was too much about to enjoy. I couldn't really go along with it. And the races themselves are quite well put together, but after the first race I believed it and the other ones are somewhat boring repetitions. Nice and brutal at times, but also a film that I quickly forgot. 2.5*.

Fairly.
The fact that I can like Jason Statham and he has an ever-charismatic support with Ian McShane, has made watching this Death Race easier. So it doesn't amount to much. It's a bit The Fast and the Furious, but with more or less a Mad Max sauce over it, ie cars that have been pimped this time to wage war.
I usually don't like long car races, on the contrary. It is therefore pleasant to notice that Death Race is fairly smooth. The races don't last too long and there is just enough variation in both design and execution. The gray filter finishes it off.
