Excellent film about a schoolboy who cleans up the filth in the street at night. A good mix between a revenge movie and a superhero movie without actually being either. It takes a while before the film has a clear direction, and partly because of this it cannot be predicted anywhere. Also a nice interaction between the male and female agent. Although a few minor flaws here and there, this is a promising debut for both director Michael Morrisey and actor Caleb Steinmeyer.

Disappointing.

Boy Wonder is without a doubt a special film that I had never heard of before it suddenly appeared on Film1. So this was a movie that I just picked up from the channel in question just for fun, and hoped it would turn out to be something. That was unfortunately not the case with this film, which was a shame in retrospect.

For starters, this movie just lacks too much to be good. Especially in terms of cinematography in this case, because for a film that tries to be very raw and hard Boy Wonder is disappointing. It all looks smooth and safe, but that's not exactly a good approach for a movie like this. I miss a hard and gloomy tone, which fits the story.

Steinmeyer's acting is strong, and his role is intriguing. Morrissey is admittedly a bit too oversentimental with Steinmeyer's coloring, but it does meet the standards and the acting is neat. That cannot be said of Henao, who unfortunately experienced a little too much pressure with her role. She just can't handle it and her character quickly becomes boring.

I also miss some surprise and action because of the story itself. Steinmeyer's nocturnal adventures have a realistic tone, but they never manage to become truly memorable. Playing around with mean people on the street, I just miss that harshness or mercilessness. This just looked too simple and above all a bit too stupid for now.

Boy Wonder had a lot of potential to be a good movie, but Morrissey's approach is too short-sighted. The revenge scenes are disappointing and the film lacks some power on a visual level. Camera work is atmospheric, however, as are the lighting and the choice of locations. That's why the film certainly has potential, but it just doesn't happen.
