127 Hours plot

"There is no force more powerful than the will to live."

'127 Hours' tells the true story of mountaineer Aron Ralston (James Franco). During a trip in the desert mountains of Moab, Utah, his arm ends up under a large rock, trapping him in a deep gorge. Aron hasn't told anyone that he's gone into the mountains, leaving little hope of a rescue. Before his accident, Aron met two more mountain hikers (Kate Mara & Amber Tamblyn). Are they the last people Aron met?

Great movie, really great movie.

Nice start in that sense by starting with all kinds of split screens showing a lot of crowds and people, the chaos of society, to emphasize once again that with such a hobby looking for the peace and tranquility of nature not so crazy, even understandable.

First part of the film, still a light-hearted view, cheerfulness trumps, enjoying nature, the peace and the accidental visit. Second part of the film and the immediate change of atmosphere, the moment he stands there looking at that stone and how that realization slowly seeps in. The rest of the film alternates strongly between a resourceful, well-thought-out, fine-talking Aron, at least to his camera, and someone who then turns to hunger, thirst and hallucinations. Especially the moment that he is interviewing himself talk show style I find hilarious and clever. It is then suggested somewhere above that Boyle should have opted for a different style, more sober and more drama, well what I absolutely don't. As far as I'm concerned, it's the combination of the film, Franco's more than excellent performance and Boyle's visual, smooth, slightly humorous style that makes the film. Although I do like a good drama, I expect that this would have been a very difficult film without the style that keeps it running smoothly. If only that had kept it interesting.

Very nice film, and once again, great performance by James Franco.

Good! The intro with the split screens sets the tone for a film that is visually very interesting. The canyon looks very beautiful and the journey of discovery of the protagonist is a real pleasure, which of course comes to an end in a heavy-handed way. Being stuck in a single location, it is inevitable that the film has to take a step back visually, but there are still interesting moments, for example through close ups of ants.

The plot is not deep and although the past of the main character is discussed, his character is only little deepened. Nevertheless, Franco knows how to fill his role well, shows the necessary humor so that it all remains pleasant to follow. 3.5*.
