Belle Epoque plot

"A sexy, lusty uninhibited comedy."

Spain, 1931. Fernando is a carefree, pacifist deserter. He roams the countryside until he is invited to his home by the wealthy Don Manolo. The latter is not interested in Fernando's deserter status, but gets on well with him because they share the same political attitude. When it turns out that Don Manolo's four voluptuous daughters are falling for him, Fernando finds himself in a heavenly position.

entertaining film; a bit flat and in my opinion not entirely balanced; so much more could have been made of the idea

Few messages and few votes for this Spanish Oscar winner

Belle Époque is a very charming film. The tone is pleasantly light and the atmosphere is relaxed and relaxed. The story has to get going at first, but once Manolo's four daughters are picked up from the train, it all becomes a lot more fun. Fernando can't be blamed for having trouble choosing between these seductive ladies. The characters are developed reasonably well and the developments and Fernando's doubts are fun to follow.

Fernando's doubts have a deeper layer. At a certain point he no longer knows who to love and where his loyalty lies. This corresponds exactly with Spain itself during the Spanish Civil War of that time. In addition, Belle Époque contains a number of beautiful sultry, slightly erotic moments, without becoming banal. The tone is always fresh and light and partly because of that it does not bore for a second.

I have to say that I didn't have many expectations beforehand, but it turned out to be a surprisingly nice film. Still a small recommendation this, if only because of the beautiful Spanish ladies.

3.5*
