In itself a nice film with beautiful images. The boy became quite irritating at times (which was inevitable because he played a spoiled brat) and the old woman was portrayed a bit too simply for my taste.

2.5*

Disturbing drama about a spoiled, egocentric city boy, who is dropped off by his mother with his reclusive grandmother in a remote mountain village. A moving film with sharp characterizations. The behavior of the brat has irritated me immensely, but that does not prevent me from finding it a beautiful film. Simple, but moving.

The only film by Eul-boon Kim (the grandmother), who passed away in Seoul in April 2021 at the age of 95.

Thanks to Baggerman for the tip.

I agree with everyone above. What an incredibly mean and annoying little guy this is. Totally no respect for others and extremely selfish. At one point he even starts crying annoyingly. He deserved a serious spanking a few times.

The contrast is of course great between the big city Seoul and the far countryside where every form of luxury is absent. I did enjoy the film. Minimalistic and authentic, serene and despite the brat endearing. Also nice that supporting soundtrack.

Fine acting! Great how those two play their roles with verve. A film that fits perfectly in my stall!
