Australia, circa 1920. Ida Carmody is married to Paddy, a shepherd. Paddy loves the nomadic life, but Ida and her son Sean are tired of traveling and want some stability, Ida forces Paddy to take a job as a sheep shearer so they can buy a farm. Paddy accepts this, against his better judgment. It doesn't take long before he starts to resist.
