Re-Kill (2015)

Junk. A bleak vision of the future in which a few brainless muscle-bound thugs go berserk with their little weapons while the cameraman does his best to keep up. "Spiced up" with a somewhat satirical and ironic tone (the commercials, talk about overused...), but nowhere does it manage to strike the right balance. Typically the kind of movie that has been gathering dust on the shelves for so many years for good reason. The fact that they are daring to release it now seems to me to be out of pure desperation (to see how much cash we can, strangely enough, still rake in!). Action-packed, but oh so boring. The zombie genre in its most hackneyed, sloppy, unmotivated form.

Entertaining.

This film is probably at its best during the first half, in which director Milev drags in all sorts of things. It is also nice that the film clearly had some budget in its back pocket, as that manages to create some deliciously raw and hard action scenes that do not shy away from bloodshed.

Of course the film is lame, but I found the delightfully modern take on a worn-out genre very successful. This film is supposed to be a sort of reality show, and it even throws in short commercials. It is a shame, however, that all logic is sucked out of the film, because for a mission that apparently had to rush, they do have the time to film everything from the outside. It doesn't seem like you would have the time to set up all the equipment in this rush.

If you look closely, you can spot some well-known actors in this film, such as the one and only Scott Adkins, but director Milev can barely or will hardly use him. The plot also falters somewhat during the second half, where the film shifts more towards horror, thereby throwing its own concept so completely overboard that you suddenly don't have much left to enjoy.

Fortunately, that doesn't detract from the fact that the film is packed with action scenes that kick down the door with brutal force. The gore flows freely and the camerwork, even though it is a reality show, is strong. The film radiates constant energy and makes great efforts to remain entertaining throughout. It doesn't quite succeed, but the first half certainly does.

A nice, hard-hitting action horror movie that benefits from a crazy and wild first hour; after that, it all becomes a complete mess. Writing the film took very little time, that much is clear, but the adrenaline remains high throughout, resulting in an enjoyable movie. Not brilliant, but fun entertainment for a one-time viewing with some creative touches.
