You Don't Know Jack plot

"Angel of mercy… or murderous “Doctor Death”?"

In 1990, the medical world was shocked when the American doctor Jack Kevorkian indicated that he could make active termination of life possible through his 'Mercy machine'. With this he facilitated his first 'suicide'. What followed was, among other things, a tough legal battle in which Kevorkian protected the right of his patients to die.

I agree with all the enthusiastic stories here. It's great that Pacino can act so strongly without immediately giving the impression that he is only using the story as a "vehicle" for his game. (He often resembles old Martin Landau here, by the way.)

Long drawn-out TV movie with top cast. The Kevorkian case was also in the news with us in the 1990s, which immediately sparked the euthanasia debate. The film reflects on the stubborn and determined personality of Kevorkian himself, who with the best intentions helped people out of their misery, but kicked society against the shins by breaking the law. He went outside the law with his practices and was also jailed for it . The film digs a little deeper and sketches a man of little emotion. He also lived some dramas of his own, including with his mother's illness. Danny Huston and John Goodman are also present.

Certainly an interesting subject, although it has not been turned into an equally fascinating film. It's a real long-winded talk film that revolves around the same issues in a neutral way for two hours. Kevorkian is not made a hero (phew!). Despite the controversy, the man remains someone who has made the subject a subject for discussion.

Well acted, of course. A wonderful role by Al Pacino. The story is gripping, especially because it all seems so authentic.

Turn-off: The judge who asks Jack Kevorkian, "Do you know what a prison is? Have you seen The Shawshank Redemption?"
