Strong action thriller to which a lot of attention has clearly been paid. Jerry Goldsmith's supporting music certainly adds to the quality of this film. Also in this film excellent acting by Kurt Russell. My only regret was the choice of Steven Seagal as Colonel Travis. He just lacks the right look for this role. Maybe other big names weren't available at the time, but I would have preferred to see Bruce Willis here. Stallone could also have filled this role very well in my opinion. The character is then just a bit more convincing and comes into its own better. Otherwise excellent.

Gray middle ground.

Typical 90s action thriller. I can't really do more than that. The film takes quite a long time for what is offered and that plays, unsurprisingly, to its disadvantage. It's not real thoroughbred action, it also builds up some suspense - or at least tries.

Big was my surprise when Steven Seagal quickly came into the picture - I went into the film blank -, but even bigger was my surprise when who disappeared from the film pretty quickly. 1996 must have been pretty much the end of its heyday and a bigger role in this movie might have been a nice farewell to that glory, but it wasn't to be. In any case, a Kurt Russell - Seagal combo would have been more fun than the many meaningless supporting roles that have to do it now.

2.5
