Resurrection plot

"Be afraid, for He is coming."

Determined Detective Prudhomme (Christopher Lambert) gets the worst case of his career. Together with his partner, he must search for a serial killer with a gruesome work method. The killer takes one part of his victims' body at a time and carves Roman numerals into the rest of the body. Gradually, Prudhomme learns that the highly intelligent murderer has devised a sinister scenario: he wants to 'rebuild' the body of Christ for the resurrection.

After reading the comments, I decided to rewatch it. I could only find this film via Youtube and therefore without subtitles and in lesser quality, but I had more than fun. I'll start with the negatives that bothered me first:

- The scene where the police officer's child died was amateurish. That child really had a long way to go before it could cycle onto the street. My father once had to run really fast after my brother, so he certainly could have made it. In addition, just grabbing that tire of that bike, really?

- There were a lot of clichés. Just think of the whores they were constantly bringing in to the station. Even when they had to arrest the perpetrator, it was a bit laughable. You could see from miles that they were waiting for someone.

For the rest very entertaining and some gore pieces that are really well found. That guy on that toilet and that he suddenly sees that photographer and only then sees that his leg is off. Great find.

Very entertaining. 4 stars

One of the best crime thrillers I know. Imagine Seven of The Bone Collector, but then in a rollercoaster ride because the film never leaves you alone. Admittedly Christopher Lambert is no Brad Pitt but here he plays at the peak of his ability, in any case his best film. And the screenplay is really stunning and well put together. Actually, this film belongs in my personal top 10, but I have about 50. 5 stars

Very good, but at the same time also balances on the verge of mediocre, but never go over it.

Christopher Lambert is not a great actor in my opinion. For all the emotions he shows, he has exactly the same look and always talks in the same tone, at most a raise of voice makes any difference.

The rest of the cast is also quite mediocre and sometimes a bit bumbling. This together with the entire (mediocre) setting gave the film an 80's impression, rather than an early 00's.

This doesn't mean the movie is bad, because this one certainly wasn't!

The story is very gripping and well developed, with more than enough tension.

The murders and the end result were very gruesome and the plot twist was also quite nice.

Resurrection certainly doesn't need "the equation" and I also think it's superfluous to make it (it seems to be an obligation to include it from the reactions), since this film has a good story of its own and therefore a fine detective!

With slightly better acting/credibility (especially conveying emotions) and a slightly better setting, this film could really score much higher.

7.5/8-

3.5*
